+Exclusive Interview w/ Cheya Crew for United Music Romania

1.How did Cheya Crew meet? How long have you all been together as a group?
- We all know each other for over 8 years, but the group was founded in april 2002. We were all activating in different Hip Hop groups and the music and passion brought us togheter.

2.For all the hip-hop fans out there can you explain the meaning behind Cheya Crew?
- Cheya is the Key for many locked souls and hearts. The meaning of Cheya could be explained by reading our first album title: "Cheya - Pace si Dragoste (Peace and Love)", it means that the key to happiness is the Peace and Love we offer and we get from the people around us. This is a simple example of one idea among many others.

3.So…how would you describe your style to people that weren’t familiar with your movement?
- Our style was formed from across the 8 years. It will never slacken, therefore it's difficult to say that we have one kind of style. It's in a continuous movement, depending on how we feel when we make music.

4.Are you working on any projects you would like your fans to know about now?
- Not yet. When the blast of our first album will disappear, we'll begin working on our second hoping that we'll have fewer barriers. There will be concerts and probably the first one will be the launch concert in july.

5.What is your favorite track from “Pace si Dragoste”?
- Each track on the album it's special to us, because they were selected from a pile of songs.

6.Is it hard to promote an album nowadays?
- It's hard to promote a Hip Hop album because our official labels don't see a good bussiness in it, so you got to do it yourself, on your own power and money...so yeah, it's a bitch.

7.What’s the most difficult part about being an unsigned band?
- Like I've said before, the main problem is the money because if you want to be heard by a lot of people you gotta reach into your pocket for big promotions, especially to be on the radio and tv with your videos and songs.

8.Did you feel any pressure to make sure this album is a success since it’s your first one?
- No, we did this album very relaxed. The main concern was that we have to like it before it hits the market, that's why a few songs were removed from the album. Anyway, we know for sure that we'll evolve, otherwise we can't survive.
And maybe after 4-5 years this album will no longer represent us fully.

9.How do you feel about the whole movement with the underground hip-hop scene?
- It's really a good thing, because to get to point B, you gotta start from point A, and people know that they're out there doing their thing, representing a Hip Hop branch, and they keep Hip Hop alive in Romania.

10.Who are some of your guy's inspirations, as far as musical artists go?
- We're all different regarding the music we listen to, we all have our own taste in music, so it's hard to say in particular, but the inspiration comes subconsciously from the music you listen to.

11.Ok, now real quick, I have a question to answer right off the top of the head...If you had to sit down and have a meal with anybody on the planet who would that be?
- The planet? No. We'd like to sit down and have a meal with God...We have so many questions to ask Him.

12.What do you guys want to accomplish?
- What anybody dares to dream, only we will try to follow our dream, and that's a long life in this game with a lot of banging albums on the market. :)

13.What’s next for Cheya Crew?
- We will release the album in a CD version, we'll shoot a video for "Pace si dragoste", we'll focus on the launch concert, and we'll begin working on our second album because you can't have a first album without a second one. :)
