Youtube to block music videos in UK after licensing row
March 11th, 2009 | Category: Electro, Newz
Youtube have begun pulling all the 'premium' (ie any good) music videos down from their site following a boardroom battle with the Performing Right Society.
The PRS collects royalties for the artists every time a tune is played on the radio, TV, online etc.
Youtube, owned by Google, claim the PRS are asking for "many, many times more for our license than before"
However the PRS say the negotiations were not over when Youtube made the decision to pull the vids and that Youtube want to pay less, and not that they are demanding more money.
It's a shame for music fans who have got into the habit of turning to YouTube as a giant jukebox. It's also bit of a bitch for us as half our Top 100 Music Videos are through Youtube. Wonder how soon they'll start yanking them? Enjoy them while you can.
